Arn (first name)
Arn , Arne , Arni , Arno is a male first name North or Central European origin, gemeingermanisch with the German name of group to Arnold is related.
Origin and meaning
The first syllable of the name Arne (dt .: [aʁnə] dän .: [ɑʶnə]) probably originates from essentially Germanic * arn (, Adler ') which is the hypothetical preform of althochdeutsch aar, aro and of altnordisch Orn or ørn with the same meaning. * Or- or * he ('big bird, eagle') is assumed to be a proto-Indo-European root . In particular, adal-ar 'noblest ar (n)' is adopted for the short names Arn, Arne, Arno . In Denmark Arne refers to the flame in a fireplace or a historical stove.
A few older name books refer to Arne and some of the related names as short forms of the Old High German Arnfried ( aar and fried , the eagle to bring peace). The more likely alternative explains the name Arne as a contracted parallel development to Arnold , which together go back to Old High German Arenwald ( aro or aar and forest , 'The one with the strength of an eagle'). The Proto-Indo-European root of the second syllable is assumed to be * waldh- on the basis of * wal- ('to be strong, to rule', in Slavic vlada for rule).
