Barry Greenstein (born December 30, 1954 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a professional American poker player and author . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker , as well as three-time champions of the World Poker Tour . Greenstein has been a member of the Poker Hall of Fame since 2011 . As part of the 50th edition of the World Series of Poker , he was named one of the 50 best players in poker history in June 2019 .
Poker career
Career
Greenstein had his first contact with poker very early on when he asked his father about the meaning of the plastic chips that were on the table in the dining room. His father, Jack Greenstein , was a successful poker player in the army during World War II. After graduating from high school, Barry Greenstein studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . Until he turned completely to poker at the age of 36, he worked at Symantec . Greenstein has two children and four stepchildren and currently lives in Rancho Palos Verdes , California . His stepson Joe Sebok is also a professional poker player.
In 2005 Greenstein published a poker book called Ace on the River: An Advanced Poker Guide (in German: Ace on the River ). Greenstein is known for sending his book with an autograph and the exact hand he was eliminated with to all players who eliminate him from a tournament. In October 2011, Greenstein was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame .
Greenstein has been donating all tournament proceeds to charities for some time and is therefore also known as the Robin Hood of poker . He earns his living with cash games . Greenstein was a member of Team PokerStars until March 2019 . He also appeared regularly on the television series High Stakes Poker . Overall, Greenstein has earned almost 8.5 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments .
