    This list contains the dioceses of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . This includes 100 dioceses in the US states and the District of Columbia , and 11 overseas or territories of the United States . Each diocese is headed by a bishop . A diocese is the collection of all parishes within its boundaries, which usually coincide with the boundaries of a US state or part of it.

    Usually, the bishoprics that are located within the United States are named after the state in which they are located or the corresponding part (e.g. Northern Michigan or West Texas ). Typically, in states where there is more than one bishopric, the area in which the first Anglican parishes were established is named after the state itself, while the others are named after city or geographic area. So z. B. in Georgia , the Diocese of Georgia has its seat in Savannah because English settlement began there, and not in the now more populous metropolitan area of Atlanta , which belongs to the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta .

    Specialists are the Convocation of American Churches in Europe , which is equivalent to a diocese and belongs to Province II, the Federal Ministries, which also belongs to Province II, and Micronesia.

    The dioceses are grouped into nine church provinces ; the name of the episcopal see is given in brackets if it differs from the name of the diocese.
