About this picture

Bodensee is a municipality with about 800 inhabitants in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). Lake Constance belongs to the Gieboldehausen municipality, which has around 14,000 inhabitants, and is located in the Untereichsfeld . Until 1973, Lake Constance belonged to the Duderstadt district .

A direct connection between the place name and Lake Constance is not certain; earlier was as a place name also Bodensen in use. The fact that Lindau, a few kilometers away from Lake Constance, has the same name as the city of Lindau in Lake Constance is also likely to be a coincidence.

Lake Constance

history

2007 was a double anniversary year for Lake Constance. The oldest known mention goes back to the year 1107. The military and rifle system can also be documented as dating back to 1457. Both anniversaries have a religious connection. In the Miracula Sancti Modoaldi is ground Husen between 12 May and 29 June 1107 in connection with a miracle in Helmarshausen Abbey was first mentioned. Johannes Letzner's assumption, which is still widespread today , that a knight named Hanno in 918, who came from Lake Constance, founded the towns of Lake Constance and Lindau in memory of his abandoned homeland, is described by recognized historians as "nonsense and fable".

The gift of the Plesse with 1,100 hooves in 1011, described by Johann Wolf, located in front of the towns of Krebeck , Bodensee, Gieboldehausen and Rüdershausen , by Immad II to his son Meinwerk, Bishop of Paderborn, is not confirmed in this way in the Vita Meinwerci .

Since the Immedingen owned large estates in Saxony and Thuringia , this information from Johann Wolf is only an assumption. The places listed are not listed among the 20 towns around the Hünstollen in which the Immedingen possessions.

The first known document from 1333 up to 2005 will not be the first loan from Bodenhusen. Further research is made difficult by the fact that the chair rolls had to be given to Hanover in World War II and were damaged or even destroyed there in bombing raids.

After the Lindau Office was partially pledged to the Archbishop of Mainz in October 1434 , disputes arose over the village of Berka and the boundaries of the Lindau Office. On December 10, 1437, the Archbishop of Mainz appointed Otto V von Plesse as bailiff and ordered that the borders of the small office be protected. Remains of a Landwehr von der Rhume near Bilshausen with the Bodenseer Warte on the Höherberg can still be seen today. From the year 1438 one can speak of the rifle system in the Lindau office : "Gesellschapp de schutten".

In the documents of March 3rd, April 4th and April 22nd, 1457 Jan von Bodenseen is asked to protect the Bursfelde monastery and its visitors with others . The occasion was the reform councils of Constance from 1415 to 1419 and Basel from 1431 to 1447. From the Bursfelde monastery, the internal church reforms were to be carried out for the north of the country by the abbot Johannes Dederoth .

The Turkish tax lists from 1442 to 1445 show which family names already existed in Lake Constance. A sample roll from 1599 shows how the defense and rifle systems were organized in Lake Constance. Like many other places, Lake Constance and its inhabitants suffered in the Thirty Years' War . While Lake Constance was completely destroyed in 1626, there were again 44 stoves in the village in 1661.

Noble family from Lake Constance

From the 14th to the beginning of the 17th century, there is evidence of a noble family in Lake Constance, they owned Plessian fiefs in the village itself and other fiefs in other places. Early 17th century belieh Landgrave Moritz of Hesse-Kassel the bailiff Rabe of Amelunxen , after the extinction of the race from Lake Constance to 1603, with the plessischen fief to Lake Constance. Due to the change of name of the von Bodenhuse family, to Bodensen and later Bodense (h) e, it is assumed that the family was related to the von Bodenhausen family . Representatives of the noble family were:

  • Konrad and Henrich von Bodensen (1321)
  • Diedrich von Bodenhusen (1333) is enfeoffed with 2 hooves by the Lords of Plesse
  • Diederich von Bodenhusen (1428, 1463)
  • Joachim von Bodensen (1519) Burgmann zu Gieboldehausen
  • Christopher von Bodensen (1538) various enfeoffments like his father Joachim
  • Melchior von Bodensee (1571) and
  • Jost von Bodensehe (1585, 1593) received fiefdoms from the von Plesse family.

The noble von Roringen family owned further plessian (Vorwerk) and Hildesheimer (Rothöfe) fiefdoms in Lake Constance.

Coats of arms, colors and seals

Blazon : “Divided by red and silver (white); above two silver (white) posts in red, each covered with two black iron hats , one above the other ; a blue wall anchor in silver (white) below. "

The coat of arms designed by Fritz Reimann from Fuhrbach was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on September 24, 1951. The upper part is derived from the coat of arms of the Barons von Amelunxen , who had blue iron hats in their coat of arms. The lower part shows the wall anchor of the Lords of Plesse , who were wealthy in the area before the town was founded. They gave Diedrich von Bodenhusen two Hufen land in 1333 . When the family died out around 1500, Landgrave Moritz von Hessen gave the hereditary village of Bodensee to a Rab von Amelunxen as a fief in 1597 .

Description of the colors: "The colors of the church are red, black, silver and blue."

Description of the seal: "The official seal contains the coat of arms with the inscription" Gemeinde Bodensee, Landkreis Göttingen "."

Culture and sights

On the nearby Höherberg (241.8 m) there is a place of pilgrimage to the 14 helpers in need (also called "Fourteen Saints of the North"). The great pilgrimage always takes place at the beginning of July. In 2006 it was the 150th anniversary.

St. Matthew Church

St. Matthew Church
High altar of the Sankt-Matthäus-Kirche in Bodensee

As the successor church to a church that burned down in the Thirty Years War and the baroque predecessor church from 1681, which has become too small for the community, the Catholic Church of St. Matthew in Lake Constance presents itself in the form of a 23.70 m long and 8.70 m wide red sandstone block with distinctive features Cornices. It was realized in the years 1779 to 1782 and, in addition to the St. George's Church in Wollbrandshausen , the St. Martin's Church in Seeburg and the St. Kosmas and Damian Church in Bilshausen, exemplifies the late baroque-classicist architecture of the lower area. The vase-crowned, voluminously curved west gable can also be found in Seeburg as a typical design element of the time. Parallels to the Bilshausen church can be found in the capitals , the round window in the rear choir wall and the finely crafted window frames with keystones. While the outer façade echoes Baroque architecture , essential elements of the interior furnishings from that era also dominate. Only the mirror vault of the nave and the polygonal, groin-vaulted choir closure are contrasting elements that have peculiarities from different times. In addition to the main altar , the pulpit was elaborately designed and has niche figures in the pulpit and a large number of decorative putti heads . Both go back to the Hildesheim sculptor Daniel Bartels. Another inventory item from the Baroque period is the console adorned with putti heads and fruit garlands next to the pulpit and the twisted candlestick with a kneeling angel as a candlestick in the choir. A sandstone baptismal font with the date of 1664 probably comes from the previous church. Since November 1, 2014, the church has belonged to the parish of St. Laurentius, based in Gieboldehausen .
