geography
Cagnes-sur-Mer consists of the actual city center, the two districts of Le Haut de Cagnes and Le Cros de Cagnes, as well as other suburbs. The districts have now grown together and form a uniform agglomeration .
Le Haut de Cagnes
Le Haut de Cagnes is located on a hill above the city center. At the top of the hill is Grimaldi Castle and a castle square with a view of the Maritime Alps . The townscape is characterized by narrow, winding streets. There are several restaurants in Le Haut de Cagnes. A free minibus (Navette) shuttles between Le Haut de Cagnes and the bus station in the city center.
Le Cros de Cagnes
Le Cros de Cagnes is the beachfront district of Cagnes. It is shaped by tourism and has a small fishing port. The waterfront has been redesigned in recent years. Le Cros de Cagnes is separated from the inland city center by the Nice-Cannes railway line and the motorway.
In the west, bordering the neighboring municipality of Villeneuve-Loubet , the Loup River flows into the Mediterranean. The river Cagne flows through the middle of the city, which is the name of the city. In the city center, the Cagne is built over in parts, it also flows into the Mediterranean.
traffic
Cagnes-sur-Mer is around six kilometers from Nice International Airport . The A 8 Aix-en-Provence - Menton (La Provençale) motorway leads directly through the city with exit number 48. There is a train station on the Marseille – Nice line . In the medium term, the extension of the Nice tram to Cagnes-sur-Mer is planned. Such a tram connection had existed before, until it was abandoned in 1925 in favor of a bus connection.
