Chicken Run is a British clay animation film from 2000. It was produced by Aardman Animations in association with DreamWorks Pictures .

action

The film tells the story of an unruly chicken named Ginger who stubbornly tries to break out of a prison camp- like chicken farm with all the chickens . However, this is repeatedly prevented by the owners of the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy.

One day the American rooster, Rocky, ends up on the chicken farm, and Ginger draws new hope of finally breaking out. Due to a misunderstanding, she thinks Rocky can fly and teach the other chickens to do so. Rocky doesn't clear up the misunderstanding, but enjoys his life with the hens. But the company becomes all the more urgent when Mrs. Tweedy orders a " chicken pie machine " and it is no longer just about the daily egg quota for the chickens, but about the chickens themselves. Ginger is supposed to “test” the machine as a guinea pig, but luckily it is saved by Rocky. Under considerable time pressure and under the supervision of Fowler, the former mascot of the Royal Air Force , the chickens are now building a bird-like, pedal-powered aircraft with which they want to fly over the fence, which they succeed after a few incidents.

The film contains numerous parody allusions and quotations from classics like The Great Escape , The Flight of the Phoenix , The Bridge on the River Kwai , Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the sun . In Chicken Run almost cynical allusions, despite all the humor, the labor and concentration camps in the Nazi era . The cultural conflict between the British and the Americans is portrayed with a lot of humor in scenes between Rocky and Fowler (Fowler: "These Yankees are all the same: lazy, impolite and they come too late for every war!").
