The 1997/98 FA Cup was the 117th staging of the world's oldest football cup tournament; The Football Association Challenge Cup , or FA Cup for short . The cup competition ended with the final at Wembley Stadium on May 16, 1998. The winner of this event was Arsenal FC .

The FA Cup is played in rounds. Any team that has a certain level of performance and an appropriate playing field can take part. The game is played i. d. Usually only with a first leg. In the event of a tie, there will be a second leg. If the second leg also ends in a draw, the game goes into extra time or penalty shoot-out. Each winner receives a bonus from the television money, which is staggered according to the round.
Main round
First main round
The games were played between November 14th and 16th, 1997. The replay took place from November 24-26, 1997.
Second main round
The games were played between December 5 and 7, 1997. The replays followed from December 15th to 17th of that year.
Third main round
The games were played on January 3 to 5, 1998. Necessary replay games have been scheduled for January 13th to 20th.
Fourth main round
The games took place on January 24th and 26th, 1998. The required replay games were played on February 3rd and 4th.
