Florian is borrowed from the Latin name Flōriānus , originally a cognomen , which in turn is derived from Flōrus . It is based on the Latin flōrus , a rarely used adjective, the original meaning of which is “yellow, blond”, but which later “bloom” i under the influence of flōrēre . S. v. "Blossoming" or "shiny, splendid" was used. Also Florian itself is Folk etymology often with flōrēre and Flos (genitive singular Floris connected) "Bloom Flower" and "(etc.) of Blooming, Magnificent" interpreted as.
