Geographical location
The municipality grave field is located in the Franconian dominated southern Thuringia and is located directly on the border with Bavaria and includes the northern area of the eponymous region grave field , which mainly via Jüchse and Bibra for Werra drained, while almost all other grave field to the catchment area of the River Main heard .

history
The Grabfeld community was created on December 1, 2007 from the merger of the member communities of the administrative community of the same name . On January 1, 2012, the Schillerort Bauerbach joined the community. The municipality of Wölfershausen joined the municipality of Grabfeld on January 1, 2019.
The districts of Bauerbach , Exdorf , Jüchsen , Obendorf and Queienfeld were affected by the persecution of witches .

Street
The municipality of Grabfeld is criss-crossed by several state and district roads for the development of the individual districts. The most important here is the L 1131, which represents a supra-regional connection between Meiningen and Bad Königshofen . Other important transport links which are close by, but which are not in the municipality, are the L 3089 or federal road 89 (Meiningen – Hildburghausen – Sonneberg) and the L 3019, the former federal road 19 (Eisenach – Meiningen – Würzburg).
The municipality of Grabfeld is accessed via junction 23 “Rentwertshausen” on the 71 federal motorway . It lies between the districts Rentwertshausen and Queienfeld. A 1.3 km long bypass has been under construction for the Queienfeld district since November 2018. It is intended to relieve the narrow, winding town through traffic and also ensure better connections to the industrial areas of Queienfeld (“Thuringian Gate”) and Wolfmannshausen. The bypass should be completed in June 2020.
Rail transport
The Schweinfurt – Meiningen railway runs through the community . The regional express 7 Mainfranken-Thüringen-Express Erfurt-Würzburg and the regional train EB 40 Unterfrankenshuttle Meiningen-Schweinfurt run on it. There are stops for the EB 40 in the districts of Wölfershausen, Bibra and Rentwertshausen and for the RE 7 in Rentwertshausen (individual trains). The nearest major train station is in the district town of Meiningen, around 12 km away, where there are direct connections to Eisenach , Erfurt , Sonneberg and Schweinfurt .
