In March 2008 Dinamo was accepted into the KHL and was divided into the Bobrow Division . According to Vladimir Naumov, chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, the club's annual budget should be between $ 15 million and $ 17 million . In addition to players of Belarusian and Russian origin, the club signed the Canadians Jeff Ulmer , Mark Rycroft , Mike Maneluk and Andy Chiodo as well as the French international Laurent Meunier for its first KHL season . As coach of the team, the Canadian Jim Hughes was signed, who was previously assistant coach with the Boston Bruins .

After sustained failure and a series of defeats that led the club to the bottom of the KHL table, Jim Hughes was dismissed in October 2008 and replaced by Vasily Spiridonow . In addition, some of the foreign players were exchanged: Mike Maneluk, Laurent Meunier, Michael Ryan and Mark Rycroft were fired and Geoff Platt and Justin Morrison were hired. Further changes in personnel did not lead to success, so that Dinamo only finished 22nd at the end of the season and missed the playoffs. A large part of the team was then exchanged for the new season and mainly replaced by players from Finland such as NHL veterans Ossi Väänänen and Ville Peltonen . In addition, a new head coach was signed with the Belarusian national coach Glen Hanlon .

After a mixed start to the season, the entire coaching staff around Glen Hanlon was fired. The previous coach of HK Homel , Aljaksandr Andryjeuski , was introduced as the new head coach .

In the 2009/10 season Dinamo maintained a farm team in the Belarusian extra league with HK Schachzjor Salihorsk . In the following season Dinamo entered into a partnership with HK Junost Minsk . HK Gomel has been a partner team of Dinamo since 2011 .

Venue

The Minsk Sports Palace , which opened after three years of construction in 1966, was the club's home town until December 2010. Since then, the team has played its home games in the Minsk Arena , which was built in 2009 and has a capacity of 15,000 more than four Times bigger than the old venue is.

successes

Dinamo Minsk has been Belarusian champion once (2007) and vice-champion (2006) since it was founded. The club also won the Belarusian cup competition twice. In 2009 Dinamo took part in the Spengler Cup in Davos for the first time and was able to win the traditional tournament.
