Horst Ludwig (* 1930 ; † December 3, 2003 in Eisenach ) was a German actor and director .

Life

Horst Ludwig graduated from the GutsMuths-Oberschule in Quedlinburg . Here he then began training as an actor in the Quedlinburg studio, a branch of the State University for Theater and Music in Halle , which was located in the castle and was looked after by the local theater . At the Städtische Bühnen Quedlinburg he also played his first roles as a youthful hero and lover in plays such as: Mrs. Warren's Trade , The Conceited Sick , Egmont , The Coffee House , As You Like It , Measure For Measure and The Fiesco Conspiracy in Genoa . At the connected Bergtheater Thale the roles of Georg, the boy of Götz von Berlichingen and Raphael as well as the pupil in Goethe's Faust , at the side of Heinz Baumann as Faust, were added. After he had received his diploma as a director of music theater here in 1953, during his first directorial work with Albert Lortzings Waffenschmied , he got an engagement as an actor with directing duties in Magdeburg . Here he assisted Ulrich Velten, one of his former teachers at the drama school, in directing Giuseppe Verdi's Die Macht des Schicksals and then independently directed Friedrich Schiller's Wallenstein's camp . He then worked as an actor at the theater in Plauen for two years .

The next station in his work was the theater in Erfurt , where he again worked as an actor and director. His directorial work included Egmont, Faust I and Romeo and Juliet . After being appointed senior director of the cheerful musical theater, he made his debut in this role with the musical comedy Das Feuerwerk . An important building block in his career was the production of the musical Kiss Me, Kate by Cole Porter , which accepted an invitation from Fritz Steiner , the artistic director of the Dresden State Operetta . Here he staged the operetta Wiener Blut and received a firm offer after the dress rehearsal, which he could not accept immediately because of his contract in Erfurt. However, he was given the opportunity to work as a guest in Dresden until two years later he was finally hired as a game director at the Dresden State Operetta. He stayed here for 18 years, during which he was promoted to senior director and deputy artistic director. From here he realized several guest productions, including in Cottbus and Gera . He turned down an offer from Cottbus to work there as the opera director because, in contrast to his earlier attitude, the operetta and the musical had become his artistic home. For 14 years of his time in Dresden he also worked as a lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden in the subjects of operetta, musical and chanson and also gave dramatic lessons.

In 1983 he began his staging of Gasparone at the Metropol Theater in Berlin, where he continued to enjoy great success. After the turn , he has appeared in 1992 with the ensemble of the Metropolitan Theater and the musical My Fair Lady four weeks in the Deutsches Theater München and 1994 en-suite eight days at the Summer Festival in the amphitheater of Xanten before each 4,500 viewers. Guest productions took him to theaters in Chemnitz and Bremen . After the Metropol Theater was closed, he worked as a freelance director at the theaters in Zwickau , Halle (Saale) , Dessau , Eisenach as well as at the Felsenbühne Rathen and the Bergtheater Thale. In total, he has directed more than 200 productions in his life.

Horst Ludwig was married to the actress Margret Allner (1942–2000) from the late 1980s .
