; bornCareer
Jarmila Kratochvílová ran the 800 meters in 1: 53.28 minutes in Munich on July 26, 1983 . This achievement is the oldest officially recognized and still existing outdoor world record in athletics (as of September 29, 2019; only junior world records are older). In the same year, she also set a world record over 400 meters with 47.99 s , being the first woman to run under 48 seconds. Since then, this time has only been undercut once, when Marita Koch completed the stadium lap in 47.60 seconds in October 1985.
After winning an Olympic silver medal in Moscow in 1980, she became double world champion in 1983. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles she could because of the boycott not attend the Eastern Bloc countries.
Jarmila Kratochvílová works as a trainer today.

Because of her physique, her doping was reported . When asked about doping, she told the FAZ in 2011 that she saw herself neither as a doping victim nor as a politician. She was not forced to do anything. She was given injections once a week. These supposedly contained vitamin B12 .
