The Karlsgymnasium München-Pasing - common abbreviation "KGP" - borders on the Pasinger Stadtpark in Munich and has 725 students.

history

founding

The school was founded in 1910 as a royal humanistic Progymnasium Pasing with 87 students. The Art Nouveau building (architect Joseph Lang, building decoration Joseph Floßmann ), which is tailored to the teacher training institute opposite , was built in 1909/10.

Time after the First World War

Since the revolution of 1918/19 , the school has also been open to girls. In 1920/21 the gradual expansion to a humanistic grammar school began (1925/26 first Abitur ), which made an extension necessary. The tradition of humanistic education continued during the Third Reich . During this time, however, the school was gradually converted into the " German High School for Boys". During this time, the move to Schererplatz also took place in order to make room for the practice school of the Hans Schemm University (teacher training institute).

Time after World War II

After the Second World War , the UNRRA headquarters for the American zone of occupation was initially set up in the school building . In 1946 the school was re-established as the “Humanistic Gymnasium Pasing” and the “Oberschule für Jungs” was converted into a “Oberrealschule” (later Max Planck Gymnasium ). In 1963 the move to the traditional building in the city park and the adoption of the current school name. In the 1970s and 1980s, the building was continuously expanded to cope with increasing numbers of students. At the beginning of the 2007/08 school year, a new building with a cafeteria and study and practice rooms was opened in the south of the school premises. The completion of an expansion complex is planned for the end of 2019.

Current offer

At the beginning of the 2018/2019 school year, more than 100 fifth graders, divided into five classes, entered the school.

Due to a lack of classrooms, lessons, especially in the upper grades, are often outsourced to the nearby Bertolt-Brecht-Gymnasium . In autumn 2009, 12th grade pupils entered the college level of the old nine-year high school for the last time. Since then, the eight-year grammar school in its humanistic and linguistic form has been valid for students in grades 5–11 : starting with Latin from the 5th, English from the 6th and Greek or French from the 8th grade. Latin can be replaced by Italian as a late start foreign language from the 11th grade (G9) or the 10th grade (G8). Since the 2017/18 school year, teaching has been taking place every nine years (new G9).

There are numerous elective courses from a wide variety of areas. What should be emphasized is the comparatively large offer in the musical field, for example the establishment of a string class in the 2007/08 school year. Since the switch to the G8, there has been an expanded all-day offer. In addition to the usual elements of school life (SMV, tutors, school newspaper ), there is a school society, a school radio and our own school paramedic and dispute resolution systems. There are student exchanges with the Lycée Fénelon in Clermont-Ferrand , a French private school in Lisbon , the Liceo Ginnasio Saffo in Roseto degli Abruzzi and the high school No. 6 in Qingdao in China.
