List of Mayors of Prague
The office of mayor in Prague was established in 1784. At that time, Emperor Joseph II had the four previously independent neighboring communities of Hradčany (Hradčany), Malá Strana (Lesser Town), Staré Město (Old Town) and Nové Město (New Town) in a new one Administrative unit “City of Prague” merged. The Czech name for the mayor's office was originally "purkmistr", since 1882 "starosta" and since 1922 "primátor".
