Varia

Of the 43 finals played so far (including return and replay), 9 went into overtime . Five were decided in this one. Once after extra time there was a penalty shootout because it was still a draw after extra time. A replay was scheduled three times because at that time a penalty shoot-out was not yet part of the regulations.

Twelve times the final ended with a result of 2: 1, nine times with 1: 0 and eight times with 2: 0.

A club has played a final three times in its own stadium: Glasgow Rangers and Fiorentina (1961) and FC Barcelona (1982).

The final was played 15 times in a state capital and 28 times in a city that was not a state capital.

The RSC Anderlecht reached the only club three times in a row the final (1976-1978), the first and third were won. The title winners reached the final seven times in the following year, none of which managed to win again: Fiorentina (1962), Atlético Madrid (1963), Milan (1974), Ajax Amsterdam (1988), Parma (1994), Arsenal FC (1995 ) and Paris Saint-Germain (1997). RSC Anderlecht 1978 and Sampdoria Genua 1990 won the title as defeated last year finalists.

Ranking lists of the venues

The most frequent venue with six finals was De Kuip in Rotterdam. Rotterdam is therefore also the city where most of the finals took place. The most frequent hosts with seven finals were the Netherlands, followed by Switzerland and Belgium with five matches each. Only those venues are listed in which a final has taken place at least twice.
