List of municipalities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are in turn subdivided into municipalities ( općine , Sg općina ).

Outline of the outline

The municipalities usually include not only an eponymous place but also its surrounding area with other places. The city of Sarajevo is a local authority with special status, comprising four independent municipalities that form a coherent urban settlement area. The city of Mostar is a unified municipality with a special statute. The municipalities of Bihać , Jajce and Zenica also officially bear the designation city , without their legal status otherwise differing from that of the other municipalities. ( City / degree in the political sense as the official designation of these regional authorities must be distinguished from the same word as the designation for localities of urban character regardless of the municipality affiliation.)

The main features of the division into municipalities from before 1992 were retained. In some cases, however, parishes have been restructured. Some municipalities were cut into two parts by the entity boundary between the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska , which then became independent municipalities. For example B. the centers of the former municipalities Doboj , Foča and Pale to the Republika Srpska, while the municipalities Doboj-Istok , Doboj-Jug , Foča-Ustikolina and Pale-Prača of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina comprise only a smaller part of the former municipalities.
