The MLB All-Star Game 2008 was the 79th edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game between the selection teams of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). It took place on July 15, 2008 at Yankee Stadium in New York . The American League team won the game for the sixth consecutive year. In this way they secured the home advantage for the representative of the AL in the 2008 World Series .
In terms of playing time, this All-Star Game was the longest in history (4 hours 30 minutes) and, together with the MLB All-Star Game 1967, also the longest after innings (15 innings).
The game's MVP was named JD Drew of the Boston Red Sox .

Since the game was the last All-Star Game in the old Yankee Stadium, every living member of the Baseball Hall of Fame was invited. A total of 49 players, coaches and officials came.
The ball for the ceremonial first pitch was given by Yankees owner George Steinbrenner to the four Hall of Fame members - all former Yankees players - Yogi Berra , Whitey Ford , Reggie Jackson and Rich Gossage .
The anthem " The Star-Spangled Banner " was sung by Sheryl Crow .
Josh Groban sang " God Bless America " during the seventh-inning stretch .
The Canadian national anthem " O Canada " was only played as an instrumental version through the stadium speakers.

Game summary
The game remained without points until the fifth inning. Then Matt Holliday managed a home run against Ervin Santana , bringing the National League 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning, the National League increased to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly from Lance Berkman .
It wasn't until the second half of the seventh inning that the American League managed to equalize with a home run by JD Drew against Edinson Volquez .
Another sacrifice fly by Adrián González brought the National League back into the lead in the eighth inning. The American League countered that same inning with a Ground Rule double from Evan Longoria .
The game remained level until the end of the ninth inning and went into overtime. The decision was finally made in the 15th inning by a fly-out by Michael Young , which made it possible for Justin Morneau to score.
The American League expanded its winning streak to 12 wins in a row.
