Recordings

The music producer of the recordings was George Martin . The sound engineers were Geoff Emerick and Malcolm Addey (May 3, 1967 only). Paul McCartney was the singer of the song and played piano and bass while recording. John Lennon played acoustic and electric rhythm guitar . He also sang in the background. George Harrison played the lead guitar and also sang in the background. Ringo Starr played the drums and tambourine . The dedicated trumpeters were David Mason, Elgar Howarth, Roy Copestake and John Wilbraham.

Based on Paul McCartney's concept of a "mysterious bus tour through England", the group began work on the title track Magical Mystery Tour on April 25, 1967 in London's Abbey Road Studios . The decision was made early on to incorporate the sound of a passing bus into the song as a special effect. For this purpose, a suitable recording from the archive of Abbey Road Studios was used.

Additional recordings followed on the next two days, with various overdubs being added. After it had been decided to have some passages accompanied by trumpets , four studio musicians were hired for recordings on May 3, 1967. It had been neglected to prepare an arrangement , so that this was worked out together with the studio musicians.

The last step took place on November 7, 1967. The piece received the spoken introduction “Roll up, roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour! Step right this way! " and the effects track prepared on April 25, 1967 with the bus noise was added to the mixes . Finally a mono and stereo version of the piece were mixed. The versions have slight differences.
