- March 2nd : The world premiere of the comic opera The Princess of Cacambo by Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner takes place in Munich.
- March 27 : premiere of the opera Cora by Johann Simon Mayr in Naples.
- October 4th : Premiere of the opera Elisabetta regina d'Inghilterra (German: Elisabeth, Queen of England ) by Gioachino Rossini in Naples.
- November 30th : The world premiere of the opera Der Herr und seine Diener by Conradin Kreutzer takes place in Stuttgart.
- December 26th : The rescue opera Torvaldo e Dorliska by Gioachino Rossini on a libretto by Cesare Sterbini is premiered as the opening premiere of the carnival season in Rome in the small Teatro Valle . Despite the excellent cast, the opera achieved only moderate success with Filippo Galli, among others.
- Franz Schubert : composes the opera The Four Years Posten , which is not premiered until 1896. In addition, the three Singspiele Fernando , Claudine from Villa Bella and The Friends of Salamanka are created . All three will not be premiered until decades later. Some of these works are only partially preserved.
