- Antonio Salieri is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a musician and has received numerous awards from the French National Institute and the Music Conservatory in Paris, among others. He becomes an honorary member of the Styrian Music Association and the Milan Conservatory as well as the recipient of the "Great Golden Civil Medal of Honor on a Chain".

Musical theater
- February 20 : The opera The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini under the direction of the composer is premiered at the Teatro Argentina in Rome under the name Almaviva o sia L'inutile precauzione . The opera with the libretto by Cesare Sterbini based on the play Le Barbier de Seville by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais fails the audience. Only the second performance is a great success.
- 3rd March : World premiere of the opera La testa di bronzo o sia La capanna solitaria by Carlo Evasio Soliva at the Scala in Milan.
- March 5th : Premiere of the opera La Fête du village voisin by François-Adrien Boieldieu at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
- June 16 : The world premiere of the operetta Hans Max Giesbrecht von der Humpenburg or The New Age of Knights by Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner takes place in Munich.
- June 18 : premiere of the opera Charles de France ou Amour et gloire by François-Adrien Boieldieu at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
- June 21, premiere of the opera Les dieux rivaux, ou Les fêtes de Cythère by Gaspare Spontini in collaboration with Henri Montan Berton and Rodolphe Kreutzer in Paris.
3rd July : World premiere of the opera Gabriella di Vergy by Michele Carafa in Naples. The material was later used by Gaetano Donizetti for his opera of the same name , published in 1826 .
- August 3 : The premiere of the opera Undine by ETA Hoffmann takes place at the State Theater on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin . Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué wrote the libretto based on his own story of the same name . The stage design comes from Karl Friedrich Schinkel .
- September 1st : Louis Spohr's romantic opera Faust is premiered in Prague . The libretto by Joseph Carl Bernard takes up the legend of Faust . It is not influenced by Goethe's Faust , the first part of which was published in 1808 . Instead, it essentially refers to a play and poem by Friedrich Maximilian Klinger and Heinrich von Kleist .
- September 26th : World premiere of the opera La gazzetta by Gioachino Rossini in Naples.
- December 4th : World premiere of the opera Otello by Gioachino Rossini in Naples.
- Franz Schubert begins with the composition of the opera Die Bürgschaft . The work breaks off in the third act and remains unfinished. The fragment was premiered in concert on March 7, 1908 in Vienna.
- Gaetano Donizetti writes the opera Il Pigmalione . The work will not have its world premiere until 1960.
