Olga Medvedtseva ( Russian Ольга Валерьевна Медведцева ., Scientific transliteration Ol'ga Valer'evna Medvedceva , born Заморозова / Samorosowa * 7. July 1975 in Borodino ), formerly married Pyljowa ( Russian Пылёва ), is a former Russian biathlete .
Career
Only in 1998 did Medwedzewa, who had become world champion at the Junior World Championships in 1993 in Harrachov, Czech Republic, and in 1995 in Gällivare, Sweden, with the Russian cross-country skiing relay and also won three individual medals at junior world championships, switched from cross-country skiing to biathlon and continuously worked her way up to the top of the world above.
successes
At world championships she won gold over 15 km in 2004 and bronze in the mass start in 2005 , with the relay she won four gold ( 2000 , 2001 , 2005 and 2009 ) and one silver (2004). She was able to achieve a total of ten World Cup victories, the second place in the overall World Cup of the 2003/04 season was her best placement in this competition. In the 2004/05 season she was third in the overall World Cup.
At the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City , the physical education teacher won the gold medal in the 10 km pursuit and bronze in the relay.
2006 doping case in Turin
At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , Medvedzewa won silver over 15 km . The medal was her but shortly thereafter deprived because they of doping with the stimulant phenylpiracetam was transferred. She was then excluded from the games and banned from all biathlon races by the International Biathlon Union for two years. Subsequently, Olga Medwedzewa initially announced her retirement from active competitive sport.
New start after the lock
In February 2008 - after the end of her doping ban - she took part in international races for the first time at the European Championships. At the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Korea, she was world champion with the Russian relay. In the individual disciplines she achieved second place in the mass start at the World Cup in Oberhof in the 2008/2009 season and a second place in the sprint in Ruhpolding in the 2009/2010 season.
Together with Svetlana Slepzowa , Anna Bogali-Titowez and Olga Saizewa , Medwedzewa succeeded in winning the relay competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Private life
Medvedzewa lives in Borodino with her husband Valery Medvedzew , the 1992 Olympic biathlon champion who was also her trainer, as well as their daughter and son .
