The South African Union took part in the 1952 Summer Olympics in the Finnish capital Helsinki with 64 athletes, 4 women and 60 men, in 59 competitions in 13 sports.

It was the tenth time a South African team had taken part in the Summer Olympics since 1904 .

Flag bearer

The athlete Schalk Booysen carried the flag of South Africa during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

Medalist

With two won gold, four silver and four bronze medals, the South African team finished 12th in the medals table .
