Both teams played a tour in the United Arab Emirates against each other. The tour there included an ODI series won by New Zealand 2–1 and a Twenty20 series won by Pakistan 2–0. The tour that now includes the tests was seen as home door to Pakistan, even though it was held at their opponent in New Zealand.
