Peter Schmidhuber

Peter M. Schmidhuber (born December 15, 1931 in Munich ) is a German state, federal and European politician of the CSU .

biography

After graduating from high school, Schmidhuber studied law and economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1951 . In 1955 he passed the examination to become a qualified economist and passed the first state examination in 1956 and the second state examination in 1960. He worked in the state financial administration since 1961, after which he worked as a lawyer from 1966 to 1978 with a license to practice in the regional courts of Munich I and Munich II .

Schmidhuber joined the CSU in 1952 and was considered the political foster child of Josef Müller (called Ochsensepp ). From 1960 to 1966 he was a member of the Munich City Council, from 1965 to 1969 and 1972 to 1978 a member of the German Bundestag . Schmidhuber was elected to the Bavarian State Parliament in 1978 , to which he was a member until 1987. Franz Josef Strauss appointed him to his cabinet in 1978 as Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs. He held the office until 1987. He was also a member of the Federal Council , the Mediation Committee and the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO .

From 1987 to 1995 Schmidhuber was a member of three European commissions ( Delors I - III ) under Jacques Delors in Brussels , responsible for regional policy and market economy, and since January 1989 also for budgetary control. From 1995 to 1999 he was a member of the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt am Main .

Peter M. Schmidhuber works as a lawyer today. His main areas of activity are currency, banking and finance law, European law and competition law. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies .

Private

Schmidhuber is widowed and has a daughter (Susanne). His areas of interest are history and philosophy, chess and art. In 1971 he was a founding member of the Lions Club Munich - Arabellapark . Since 1981 he has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Rheno-Franconia Munich in the CV .
