Medical academy of the Bundeswehr

The medical academy of the Bundeswehr ( SanAkBw ) in the Ernst-von-Bergmann barracks in the north of Munich is the central training facility of the medical service of the Bundeswehr and was subordinate to the medical office of the Bundeswehr until June 30, 2013 . On July 1, 2013, he was placed under the command of the Bundeswehr Medical Service . With the change of position, the first phase of reclassification into a competence center for medical science, development and training tasks began, which was completed on March 30, 2014.

In addition to the course-related individual training (including career courses), technical and scientific training, further education and training for the Bundeswehr medical service takes place here. In addition, the SanAkBw was entrusted with conceptual specialist tasks as part of the reclassification.

Since almost every long-term member of the Bundeswehr medical service was trained at the institution, it is referred to as the "motherhouse" of the Bundeswehr medical service.

history

The roots of the medical academy go back to the 200 year old tradition of the Prussian military medical education institutions.

The institution, which was founded in 1956 as the army medical school in the Karfreit barracks in Degerndorf am Inn , was relocated to the Luitpold barracks in Munich in 1957 , and two years later it was reclassified to the Bundeswehr medical school , the first commander of which later became the inspector of the medical and medical services Healthcare Herbert Hockemeyer was.

Due to the research work in the institutes for radiobiology (InstRadBioBw), microbiology (InstMikroBioBw) and pharmacology and toxicology (InstPharmToxBw), which were then part of the field of studies and science , the school was named "Academy of Medical and Health Services of the Bundeswehr" on October 29, 1963 'The medical academy has only been in the current property since the move in 1980. In 1997 the academy was renamed the "Medical Academy of the Bundeswehr". With the move of the Medical Office of the Bundeswehr to the Munich location, the institutes were independently and directly subordinate to the Medical Office of the Bundeswehr. After the office was dissolved at the end of 2013, the institutes were subordinated to the Medical Academy.

Numerous specialist courses and courses meet the quality standards prescribed by civil law and are recognized by the Bavarian State Medical Association as part of further training.

According to information from 2008, the Bundeswehr Medical Academy hosted over 6,000 course participants and 8,300 conference participants each year.

The internal Badge of the Medical Academy consists of a dark blue escutcheon with round finish, wherein the dark blue color of arms of the medical service as a branch of service of the Army representative of the medical service of all the armed forces was taken of the armed forces. The heart of the coat of arms shows the head of the Greek goddess Athena with a helmet . The letter "A" below the head, in the center of the shield base , is intended to express that the office is an academy , i.e. a place of training, teaching and science. Behind the head, from top left to bottom right, a staff of Aesculapius crosses with a sword that runs from bottom left to top right . As a symbol of medical service, the Aesculapian staff represents the approvals for human medicine , dentistry , veterinary and pharmacy . The cross with the sword is intended to illustrate the interaction of the military and medical services in accordance with the mandate of the medical services of the armed forces. The motifs are shown in white or silver. The combination of white / silver and (dark) blue represents the meaning of the Bavarian state colors and thus the bond with Munich, the Bavarian capital.

The coats of arms of the three institutes that emerged from the academy (InstRadBioBw, InstMikroBioBw and InstPharmToxBw) were designed based on the coat of arms of the medical academy. Instead of the letter “A”, they have specific motifs for the respective research area.

The training teaching group with the training organization and training planning, the specialist teacher group and the specialist media center were dissolved on June 30, 2013 and merged into the Directorate of Training and Teaching Health Care. Which belongs to the teaching group training military pathological and teaching military history collection of the Medical Academy of the Bundeswehr has also been incorporated into the health care directorate training and teaching.
