Swiss Ice Hockey Federation
The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) is the umbrella organization for Swiss ice hockey. The SIHF unites competitive sports with the departments “National Teams” and “National League & Swiss League” as well as young and amateur sports with the departments “Youth Sports & Development” and “Regio League”.
The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation is a member of both Swiss Olympic and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
history
The association was founded on September 27, 1908 as the successor to the ice hockey association in French-speaking Switzerland , which had existed since 1904 , "Ligue de hockey sur glace de la Suisse romande" . In 1968 the National League (now the National League ), which until then had played under the SEHV, was largely granted autonomy. In 1990 the " Jean Tinguely Fund " was set up to support young talent projects. In 2000, the sports agency IMG Suisse SA took over the marketing of the SEHV, which bought the rights back in 2001. It was later renamed the Swiss Ice Hockey Association. On June 1, 2011, SIHA merged with the National League and the Regio League to form today's Swiss Ice Hockey Federation.
The SIHF is strongly committed to the next generation as well as promoting women's ice hockey. For this purpose, two major recruiting tools (Swiss Ice Hockey Day and the PostFinance Trophy) have been launched, in which girls and boys can participate. The Swiss Ice Hockey Day is a national day that takes place throughout Switzerland and offers beginners in particular the opportunity to take their first steps on the ice. The PostFinance Trophy is a national school tournament supported by PostFinance as the main partner for the targeted promotion of young talent.
Due to the new introduction of the MySports League (highest amateur league) and the renaming of National League A to National League and National League B to Swiss League, the logos have been revised and redesigned. The three highest leagues in Switzerland received new logos for the 2017/18 season.
