Star of Satire - Walk of Fame of Cabaret
" Stars of Satire - Walk of Fame of Cabaret " is the name of a section of the pedestrian zone along the Provision Office in Mainz . It connects the Stiftung Deutsches Kabarettarchiv, housed in the old fortress building, with the Unterhaus - Mainz Forum Theater and with Schillerstrasse. The names of important German-speaking cabaret artists are immortalized with a bronze star with seven curved tips , along with the name of the respective donor. Between 2004 and 2015, 80 stars were let in on this path at Romano-Guardini-Platz . The last three prepared empty spaces were allocated on September 15, 2015.
History of origin
The "Walk of Fame des Cabaret" was set up with the move of the cabaret archive to the historical Proviant-Magazin in July 2004. On July 16, the installation was opened in the presence of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media , Christina Weiss , and Kurt Beck , Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate opened. The stars are made of bronze . The artist's name is set in capital letters in the star, and a stainless steel star in the middle contains your personal signature.
A group of experts selected 80 famous artists from the fields of cabaret and satire for the "Walk of Fame". Each star has a founder (donor / sponsor) who together form the “Star Association of Satire”. The aim of the association was originally to get all 80 "stars" on the way by the 110th birthday of the German cabaret in 2011. It has been known since 2013 at the latest that the list includes 120 people.
Details about those honored can be found in the neighboring German Cabaret Foundation. More than eighty artistic and documentary bequests and materials on over eighty thousand names from the history of cabaret and its historical predecessors now form the core holdings of the cabaret archive , which goes back to a private initiative by Reinhard Hippen in 1961. In Bernburg (Saale) , the East German branch, the "heads of satire" can be admired in Bernburg Castle . Numerous archival documents there also remind of the "immortals" of cabaret in GDR times.
Die Sterne der Satire was a cooperation between the German Cabaret Archive Foundation, the Mainz Forum Theater Unterhaus and the City of Mainz.

The following table contains the names of the honored cabaret artists and - if available - the donors of the individual stars. This is followed by the date of the star's unveiling on the Walk of Fame. A *) after the name means that the award was made during your lifetime.
