The TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge was a stock car racing event that was held annually from 2005 to 2015 .
In a report broadcast on September 30, 2002 for the Raab in danger section of his TV total program , the presenter Stefan Raab got to know the stock car race and created his own competition from it. The competition has always been held in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen since 2005 . Only in 2008 was it switched to the LTU Arena in Düsseldorf . The program was moderated by Oliver Welke (2005–2009), Matthias Opdenhövel (2010, previously a regular participant) and from 2011 to 2015 by Steven Gätjen (was also a participant). Sonya Kraus (2005–2008, 2010–2011), Charlotte Würdig (2009, 2012 to 2014) and Sophia Thomalla (2015) were co-moderators . Ron Ringguth has been a commentator on the event since the first edition. In the Stock Car Crash Challenge there were three competitions in the 1500, 1900 and 3000 cm³ classes. In addition, a rodeo race took place at the end of the event, which lasted until only cars from the same team were roadworthy. The Caravan Crash Cup has also been held since 2011, in which the drivers started with a caravan trailer and had to drive most of the laps in a given time without losing the caravan.
During the show on October 10, 2015, ProSieben announced on Twitter that there would be no further broadcasts due to Raab's resignation from the TV business.

Teams
A total of ten teams competed against each other. These included one team each from TV total and one from the ProSieben Group (except for 2006), the other teams were sponsored by different companies. There were three prominent drivers for each team, one in each engine class. The engine classes were 1500 cm³, 1900 cm³ and 3000 cm³.
Qualifying
Qualifying took place on the evening before the Stock Car Crash Challenge between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. One driver from each team competed. After an introductory lap with a flying start, the drivers drove five laps (from 2005 to 2007 only 3 laps) over the track, the fastest lap time counted. The starting positions were assigned in ascending order according to lap time (i.e. the team of the driver with the fastest lap time received the first starting position). For technical production reasons, there was no qualifying in 2014 and 2015.
First run
First, the first run was carried out in each engine class. This was about speed and the greatest number of laps. The driver with the fastest lap time from qualifying started from first place on the grid. For every lap driven, the driver received ten points on his personal account and, since 2011, for the team classification. If a driver had completed ten laps (up to 2010 twenty laps), no more points could be scored. The other participants drove their current lap to the end as quickly as possible in order to offer a criterion for the placement in the event of a tie over time.
The placement of the first run was based on the number of points, in the event of a tie (same number of laps) the time (crossing the start / finish line) decided.
Second run
The second run also took place separately according to engine class. The main thing here was to turn other vehicles or get them to rollover. The driver with the highest number of points from the first run started last to have the other vehicles right in front of him.
The second run lasted ten minutes, whereby the time was stopped in the event of obstacles on the track. The driver received five points for each lap he drove. If a driver turned an opponent's car by at least 90 °, he received 25 points. If a driver managed to turn an opponent onto the roof, he received 50 points. The winner in the individual engine classes was determined based on the number of points, with the points from the first run also counting. The winner won a gold exhaust.
Caravan Crash Cup
The Caravan Crash Cup took place for the first time in 2011. The drivers drove with attached caravans . Stefan Raab competed for the TV total team as well as one driver each from the top three of the other teams in the team classification.
The cars from the other races were not used as towing vehicles, as they could already be damaged at this point. The four participants were evenly spaced along the route. For every full lap that a driver drove in a caravan, he received one point. It was driven for ten minutes, and here too the clock was stopped in the event of disabilities. In order to collect points, at least the underbody with the drawbar still had to be attached to the vehicle, regardless of whether it was on the trailer coupling or on the safety rope . A driver who no longer had a trailer could only try to prevent the opponent from completing laps. The winner received a Dutch license plate as a reward.
rodeo
The rodeo was the team race in the TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge. At the rodeo, all vehicles from the other races that were still roadworthy competed. This was just about damaging other vehicles. If a vehicle stood for more than 30 seconds or could no longer drive on its own (e.g. engine defect, drive wheels hanging in the air or turned on its side / roof), it and its driver were eliminated. Drivers who drove too passively were disqualified by the race management. From time to time, or when the track was blocked too much, the race would be paused to remove eliminated cars from the track.
The team that was the last to have one or more moving cars on the track won. Some of the vehicles even drove on with extreme damage. In 2011 there were three participants in the race: Manfred Ludolf drove with a heavily steaming engine, Joey Kelly only had a tire on one rim and Martin Tomczyk drove without a right front wheel.
If only two teams were represented with one car each at the end of the rodeo, the race management was able to arrange a sudden death for decision-making. The two remaining cars drove head-on towards each other until one car was unfit to drive and was eliminated. If both cars failed at the same time, there was a draw and thus two winners, for the first time in 2012 between Adrian Sutil and Timo Scheider .
