The 2006/07 UEFA Women's Cup was the sixth draw of the European championship competition for women's football clubs . With the Arsenal LFC, an English club won the competition for the first time, and for the first time a club managed to win a European Cup in both men's and women's football. In the final, Arsenal LFC beat Swedish champions Umeå IK, who reached the final for the fourth time, 1-0 and 0-0.
The 36 unseeded teams have been geographically divided into three sections of twelve clubs by UEFA . Within each section, three groups of four teams each will be drawn. The nine group winners reach the 2nd round.
The first round came up with a few surprises. With the KFC Rapide Wezemaal , a Belgian women's team reached the 2nd round for the first time. Wezemaal were one of the two most goal-hungry teams with 18 goals. In group A5, the Belarusian representative from Vitebsk surprisingly prevailed against the favored Italians from Fiammamonza. The highly regarded Juvisy FCF had to admit defeat to the Spanish champions Espanyol Barcelona in Group A2 . Otherwise, the favorites could prevail. HJK Helsinki ( Finland ) and Breiðablik Kópavogur ( Iceland ) remained clean. The champions from Austria ( SV Neulengbach ) and Switzerland ( FFC Zuchwil 05 ) were eliminated as second and third in the group.
In the second round, the six seeded national champions and the defending champion intervened in the action. Again, there were a few surprises.
Defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt made it through to the quarter-finals despite the unfamiliar artificial turf pitch in Helsinki. Surprisingly, the women from Praunheim were accompanied by the Icelandic master Breiðablik Kópavogur. The reigning German champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , however, found it very difficult. Against the Belgian representative Wezemaal you could win with displeasure, against the Dutch champion Saestum it was only a draw. In the end the Czech champions from Prague could be defeated 4-0 and the "goal bees" were group winners. While Prague was the big disappointment of the second round, SV Saestum from Holland caused a sensation and was the first Dutch team to reach the quarter-finals. For the first time ever, two teams started in the first round made it into the round of the last eight. There were no surprises in groups B2 and B4, where the favorites prevailed.
The group winners and runners-up reached the quarter-finals.
Quarter finals
The game was played on 11./12. and 18./19. October. Defending champion 1. FFC Frankfurt was unlucky enough to be eliminated from the competition due to Kolbotn IL's away goals. The 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam also left the competition. For the first time in the history of the UEFA Women's Cup, no German team reached the semi-finals. In the other two games, the favorites clearly prevailed.
The game was played on November 4th and 12th, 2006. Umeå IK prevailed surprisingly clearly against Kolbotn IL. For the Swedes it is already the fifth participation in the final. For the first time, with Arsenal FC, an English team has reached the final of the UEFA Cup.
Arsenal had a surprising away win in the first leg. Although Umeå was the stronger team, the favored Swedes couldn't score any goals. In stoppage time, Alex Scott made the decision with a shot from 25 yards.
