The US Highway 34 is a 1806 km long running in east-west direction Highway through the center and the north of the United States .
Its western end point is the confluence with US Highway 40 near Granby in the middle of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado . The east end is at the confluence with Illinois State Route 43 in Berwyn, Illinois in the western suburb of Chicago .

Colorado
The route through the Rocky Mountain National Park is also known as Trail Ridge Road , the highest asphalt road in the USA at 3713 m.
Highway 34 initially leads north, where it overcomes the Front Range and thus the highest section with the Milner Pass and the Front River Pass .
In Estes Park opens US Highway 36 one, which has reached its western terminus here. The road now leads straight to the east, parallel to the Big Thompson River and crosses in Loveland to US Highway 287 and east of the city, Interstate 25 . Nebraska
Highway 34 is the most important west-east axis in southern Nebraska.
At the small town of Haigler , Highway 34 comes to Nebraska and runs through a number of other small towns to the east. West of Culbertson begins another common route with Highway 6 with a length of 226 km. A few kilometers east crosses in McCook of US Highway 83 , shortly after which flows US Highway 136 and the common path of Highways 6 and 34 now continues to the east. A little later, the road turns northeast and reaches the junction with US Highway 183 in Holdrege . The common course with Highway 6 ends in Hastings. Highway 34 turns north here together with US Highway 281 . Then the street crosses the Platte River .
After junction with Interstate 80 , Highway 34 turns east south of Grand Island and crosses the Platte River again. US Highway 81 crosses north of York . Further east, Highway 34 and Lincoln Airport reach the metropolitan area of the capital of Nebraska. The road now runs through the middle of the city and meets Highway 6 as well as Interstate 80 and the US Highway 77 that runs together with it .
After leaving the city of Lincoln Highway 34 leads straight to the east until he at Union on the US Highway 75 meets and conducts together in a straight line to the north. The official name for Highway 34 in Iowa is the Red Bull Highway , named after the 34th US Infantry Division (Red Bull) .
Illinois
After the highway from Iowa has reached the state of Illinois, it meets the US Highway 67 in its east-northeastern course at the Monmouth bypass . US Highway 150 crosses Interstate 74 on the northwestern bypass of Galesburg and north of the city .
The road continues to the northeast. West of Princeton , Highway 6 meets Highway 34 again and runs with it on a 25 km long joint route. In the center of the city of Princeton, Highway 34 leaves the joint route again in a northeasterly direction and crosses Interstate 80 again on the northeastern edge of the city.Shortly before the city of Mendota , Highway 34 changes direction again to the east, in the city center the US Highway crosses 52 . East of the city, Highway 34 crosses Interstate 39 and US Highway 51, which runs together with it .
The road now continues in an east-northeast direction and enters the greater Chicago area in Oswego . US Highway 30 crosses behind Oswego . From now on, Highway 34 is named Ogden Avenue until its end , named after William Butler Ogden , the first mayor of Chicago. Before Interstate 55 was completed, Route 66 and Highway 34 ran together through the Chicago area. With the complete dissolution of Route 66, the end point of Highway 34 was moved from the center of Chicago further southwest to its present location.

There are plans to build a new bridge from Nebraska to Iowa over the Missouri River. This will be located further north south of Bellevue (Nebraska) at Omaha Airport .
