Veľký Blh (Hungarian Nagybalog or Vámosbalog ) is a municipality in the south-center of Slovakia , with 1182 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in the Okres Rimavská Sobota , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the hilly landscape of the Juhoslovenská kotlina basin , Rimavská kotlina subunit on the Blh river . To the north of the village rises the Revúcka vrchovina , part of the Slovak Ore Mountains . The center of the village is at an altitude of 216 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota .
history
The present municipality was created in 1943 through the merger of the places Nižný Blh (Hungarian Alsóbalog ) and Vyšný Blh (formerly "Vyšný Balog"; Hungarian Felsőbalog ).
The originally some place is mentioned in writing for the first time in the 13th century and was in the shadow of the nearby Blh Castle , to whose manor until the 17th century the area belonged.
