What You're Doing ( English something like: What are you doing ) is a song by British band The Beatles , in 1964 on their fourth studio album Beatles for Sale was published. It was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and published under the author's name Lennon / McCartney .

What You're Doing is mainly based on the musical ideas of Paul McCartney. The song was inspired by McCartney's relationship with Jane Asher .

What You're Doing was not included in the group's live repertoire in 1964.

What You're Doing was recorded on September 29th and 30th, 1964 in London's Abbey Road Studios (Studio 2) with producer George Martin . Norman Smith was the sound engineer for the recordings. Seven more takes were recorded on September 29 and five more takes on September 30. On September 29, 1964, I Don't Want to Spoil the Party and Every Little Thing (not the final version) were recorded.

What You're Doing was re-recorded on October 26th and a total of seven takes were recorded. The band recorded a total of 19 takes , with the 19th take also being used for the final version.

The song was mixed on October 27, 1964 in mono and stereo . The mono mix of What You're Doing does not include clapping hands at the beginning of the song.
