The amateur league Schleswig-Holstein was staged for the tenth time in the 1956/57 season and formed the substructure of the first-class Oberliga Nord until the 1962/63 season. The two first-placed teams were allowed to participate in the promotion round to the first-class Oberliga Nord, the teams in the three places had to relegate to the 2nd amateur league.

Compared to the 1955/56 season , the composition of the league changed as follows: Heider SV was promoted to the Oberliga Nord, while no team from Schleswig-Holstein was relegated from the Oberliga Nord. The three relegated Union-Teutonia Kiel , Eckernförder SV and 1. FC Lola had left the amateur league and were replaced by the three promoted ATSV Lübeck (return after a year), SC Comet Kiel and TSV Siems (both in the amateur league for the first time). The league was reduced to 16 teams.

Season course

VfB Lübeck secured the championship and thus participation in the promotion round. The LBV Phönix was also allowed to take part in second place. Both achieved promotion to the Oberliga Nord in the promotion round.
