Forty to a hundred for freight trains.

history

Route network of the Breslau-Schweidnitz-Freiburg Railway

The first section of today's line Katowice – Legnica, Königszelt - Schweidnitz was opened on July 21, 1844 by the Breslau-Schweidnitz-Freiburg Railway (BSF) as a branch of the Wroclaw – Freiburg line in Silesia , which was opened in 1843 . On November 2, 1845, the Upper Silesian Railway (OSE) opened the first eastern section of today's line, Kandrzin - Gleiwitz , as a continuation of the Opole – Kandrzin line . On November 15, 1845, the continuation followed to the eastern Schwientochlowitz and on October 3, 1846 that to Kattowitz . In the west, in turn, the BSF extended its route on November 24, 1855 to Reichenbach im Eulengebirge and northwards on December 16, 1856 to Liegnitz . In the south it opened on November 1, 1858, the continuation to Frankenstein . On April 1, 1874, the now state-run OSE opened the continuation to Camenz , since 1873 station on the Breslau – Wartha line . On December 28, 1874, it opened the continuation to Friedenthal-Giesmannsdorf . In November 1875, the Neisse - Deutsch Wette - Ziegenhals line , only part of today's Katowice – Legnica railway line as far as Deutsch Wette, was opened as a continuation of the line from Brzeg opened in 1847–1848 . The gap between Neisse and Friedenthal-Giesmannsdorf was closed on June 12, 1876 and at the same time a branch of the Neisse – Ziegenhals line from Deutsch Wette to Neustadt in Upper Silesia was opened. The continuation via Deutsch Rasselwitz to Leobschütz was only two months later, on August 15 Opened in 1876, once again only the first section is part of today's Katowice – Legnica line. The gap between Kandrzin and Deutsch Rasselwitz was closed in the same year. After that, the line was nationalized and double-tracked.

From 1922, after the referendum in Upper Silesia , until the German occupation of Poland in 1939, the German-Polish border lay east of Hindenburg OS , and the entire route has belonged to Poland since 1945.

The sections Kędzierzyn-Koźle Zachodnie - Twardawa , Kamieniec Ząbkowicki - Świdnica Miasto and Jaworzyna Śląska - Legnica will only be used on a single track.

Since June 1, 1957, the Katowice - Gliwice section has been operated electrically, since October 3, 1960, the Gliwice – Gliwice Łabędy , since July 18, 1962, the Gliwice Łabędy– Kędzierzyn-Koźle . On October 30, 1986, the contact wire was put into operation on the easternmost section from Nowa Wieś Legnicka, where there are some connections, to Legnica, but was taken out of service again in 2005.

The Rudziniec - Kędzierzyn-Koźle section had already been expanded to three tracks in 1975 , with the third track now partially closed again.

Long-distance traffic is operated up to Kędzierzyn-Koźle, after that only regional traffic except for the section Nysa - Kamieniec Ząbkowicki , where passenger traffic has been discontinued since 2009. In summer 2018, regular passenger trains will run there again on weekends.
