The University of Bangkok ( Thai : มหาวิทยาลัย กรุงเทพ , English: Bangkok University, short: BU) is a tertiary educational institution in Bangkok and one of the oldest and largest private universities in Thailand . In 2008, 26,884 students were enrolled here.

history

The forerunner of the University of Bangkok was the Thai Technical School ( โรงเรียน ไทย เทคนิค ), which was founded in 1962 on the initiative of Surat Osathanugrah, owner of the energy drink producer Osotspa and later Minister of Transport and Trade. It was later renamed Bangkok College ( วิทยาลัย กรุงเทพ ) so as not to give the impression that it was a vocational school. She entered into a cooperation with Fairleigh Dickinson University in the US state of New Jersey . In 1984 the college was one of the first four private universities in Thailand to receive university status. The founder's family is still associated with the university. Surat's son and main heir, Petch Osathanugrah, chairs the university council.

Bangkok University has two campuses:

City campus

The campus in the city is called the Kluay Nam Tai Campus ( วิทยาเขต กล้วยน้ำไท ) and is located on Thanon Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Street) in the Khlong Toei district of Bangkok. The campus has an area of ​​approximately 15,000 square meters and houses the facilities for the regular students from the third year of study.

The international students and most of the academics in special programs are also based here. The International College, the Graduate School and the President's Office are located here. An art gallery has been open since 2006.

Rangsit

The campus Rangsit ( วิทยาเขต รังสิต ) is located on the Thanon Phahonyothin ( Phahonyothin Road ) in the district of Khlong Luang the province of Pathum Thani , about 14 kilometers north of the former Bangkok international airport Don Mueang . The campus covers an area of ​​more than 260,000 square meters.

Most of the first and second year students are accommodated on the Rangsit campus. This is also where the Bangkok University FC stadium is located .
