The municipality is located between Eindhoven and Lommel (Belgium).

Agriculture and tourism are the main sources of income. There are also commuters living in Bergeijk who work in the neighboring municipality of Eindhoven to the north.

The Ständermühle (open on Saturdays) as well as the widespread forest and heather areas, in which a vintage car meeting dedicated to pre-war tractors takes place, are important for tourism.

history

Before the French Revolution, Luyksgestel belonged to the Principality of Liège and did not come to the Netherlands until 1816 . The other places, traditionally farming villages, shared the fate of North Brabant, so that the Catholics were not allowed to practice their religion freely between 1648 and 1793 : They went to mass abroad (Luyksgestel). In the 18th and 19th centuries, many of the inhabitants of these villages earned a living as peddlers with copper pots and wigs. In the local dialect they were called teuten .

Westerhoven has been part of the Bergeijk municipality for several years. Every year many thousands of tourists from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and many other countries find their way to Westerhoven because of Center Parcs' De Kempervennen bungalow park . Here you can eat in many restaurants, swim in a large subtropical swimming pool, ski all year round on real snow and water ski on the large lakes. Westerhoven was already a popular settlement place in the prehistory. Hunters settled on the banks of the Keersop and Beekloop rivers. De Heuvel, the connection route to the neighboring village of Riethoven, was laid out in Roman times. Franconian pottery was found during excavations at what was then Haverhof. The Valentinus Chapel on Loverensedijk was built after the Second World War as a memorial chapel on the remains of a medieval chapel. In the well next to the chapel, the water level is always higher than the groundwater. The water is said to have a beneficial effect on skin diseases. Every year on February 14th (Valentine's Day) there is an evening pilgrimage from St. Servatius Church to the chapel. Large forest and heathland areas invite you to go hiking and cycling at any time of the year. There are resting places everywhere, not least in the cozy villages in the FB area.
