Bogatowo ( Russian Богатово , German Szargillen , 1936–1938 Schargillen , 1938–1945 Eichenrode ( Eastern Pr.) , Lithuanian Žargiliai ) is a place in the Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Polessk in Polessky District .
Geographical location
Bogatowo is 16 kilometers east of the district town of Polessk (Labiau) on the municipal road 27K-252, which branches off to the west in Lomonossowka (Meyerhof) from the regional road 27A-014 (ex R512 ). The train station south of the village on the Kaliningrad – Sowetsk (Koenigsberg – Tilsit) railway line is reached from Sosnowka (Groß Baum) on the local road 27K-146.
history
The village , which was called Sergillen before 1540 and later became a forestry , was first mentioned in a document in 1495. In 1874 it was incorporated into the newly established district of Neu Sternberg (no longer existent today), which - transformed into "District Sternberg" in 1931 - until 1945 belonged to the Labiau district in the Königsberg district of the Prussian province of East Prussia . On April 9, 1931, Szargillen was reclassified to the neighboring district of Groß Baum (today in Russian: Sosnowka). In 1936 the spelling of the place was changed to Schargillen and in 1938 the place was renamed Eichenrode.
In 1945 the place came to the Soviet Union as a result of the war due to its location in northern East Prussia . In 1947 the place was given the Russian name Bogatowo and was assigned to the village Soviet Ilyichovsky selski Sowet in Polessk Raion . Later the place got into the Sosnowski selski Sowet . From 2008 to 2016 Bogatowo belonged to the rural municipality of Saranskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Polessk.

With its predominantly Protestant inhabitants, Szargillen / Schargillen resp. Eichenrode was part of the parish of the Augstagirren church until 1945 . It belonged to the parish of Labiau in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Bogatowo is in the catchment area of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Polessk (Labiau) , a branch of the Resurrection Church in Kaliningrad (Königsberg) in the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
