Coyrière is a municipality in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Coyrière is located at 702 m , about six kilometers south-southwest of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in the deeply cut valley of the Tacon, between the heights of the Combe Mathieu in the west and the Hautes-Combes in the east.
The area of the 4.11 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The western border runs along the Tacon , which feeds its water to the Bienne . The valley, which is a maximum of two kilometers wide at its upper edge, is sunk like a canyon into the plateaus of the Hautes-Combes and is more than 500 m deep on the northern municipal boundary. The upper valley slopes are very steep and are criss-crossed by ledges (resistant limestone layer). The municipal area extends to the edge of the high plateau of the Hautes-Combes ( Les Couronnes ), on which the highest point of Coyrière is reached at 1125 m . The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
Coyrière's neighboring municipalities are Villard-Saint-Sauveur in the north, Les Moussières in the east and Coiserette in the south and west.
history
Since the High Middle Ages, Coyrière and Coiserette belonged to the property of the Saint-Claude monastery. A change of area occurred in 1790 when Coiserette was separated from Coyrière and raised to an independent municipality. During the Second World War , Coyrière was looted and sacked by German troops in 1944. The rebuilt village does not have its own church.

With 65 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Coyrière is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (197 people were still counted in 1886), only relatively small fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Coyrière was primarily a village characterized by agriculture , especially cattle and dairy farming, as well as forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. Road connections exist via Coiserette or Villard-Saint-Sauveur with Saint-Claude.
