Chancia is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Chancia is at 300 m , about ten kilometers north of the city of Oyonnax (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the valley of the Bienne below its breakthrough by the Maissiat anticline, on the northern edge of the Lac de Coiselet reservoir .
The area of the 2.41 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The area is limited to the west by the Ain , to the south by the Lac de Coiselet and the course of the Bienne. The Bienne used to flow into the Ain below the village, while today the entire floodplain is flooded by the Lac de Coiselet. To the north, the municipality extends over the separate hill Molard de Netru ( 490 m ), the hill of Chancia and the steep slope up to the height of Montcusel, where the highest point of Chancia is reached at 680 m . The village is dominated by striking limestone cliffs. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
Neighboring communities of Chancia are Lect in the north, Montcusel in the east, Lavancia-Epercy and Dortan in the south and Condes and Vescles in the west.
history
Chancia is first mentioned in the 12th century. In the course of time the village belonged successively to the lords of Vouglans, Boutavent and Bouchoux. Together with Franche-Comté , Chancia came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Chancia was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses and a factory that produces molds. In the meantime, the village has turned into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Dortan to Orgelet . Other road connections exist with Thoirette , Condes and Montcusel. The closest connection to the A404 motorway (Saint-Martin-du-Frêne - Oyonnax) is around ten kilometers away.
