Les Crozets is a municipality in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Les Crozets is located at 830  m , about ten kilometers north-northwest of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a hollow in the headwaters of the Lison (tributary of the Bienne ), in a wooded area in the western High Jura.

The area of the 7.61 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The landscape is characterized by terrain structures such as ridges and hollows, which are oriented in a north-south direction. The area is drained by three source brooks of the Lison , which flow through longitudinal troughs and unite in an erosion valley on the southern edge of the municipal soil. The hollow of Les Crozets is flanked in the west by the ridge of the Forêt de Moirans ( 931  m ), in the east and northeast by the heights of the Forêt des Piards ( 1005  m ). The eastern border runs on the crest of the Bois de la Sourde , on which the highest elevation of Les Crozets is reached at 1064  m . In various places there are typical karst phenomena such as sinkholes , cart fields and caves. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).

Les Crozets includes the hamlet of Les Crozets-du-Haut ( 840  m ) in a hollow on the southern edge of the Forêt des Piards and a few individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Les Crozets are Étival and Les Piards in the north, Leschères in the east, Ravilloles in the south and Moirans-en-Montagne in the west.

history

The municipality of Les Crozets was already settled in Gallo-Roman times. The place was first mentioned in a document in the 14th century. The place name is derived from the old French word creuset (small ditch). Since the Middle Ages, Les Crozets belonged to the territory of the Abbey of Saint-Claude. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Clairvaux-les-Lacs to Saint-Lupicin . Other road links exist with Moirans-en-Montagne and Les Piards.
