Vulvoz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vulvoz is located at 715 m , about nine kilometers southwest of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a valley basin opening to the west at the foot of the Combe Mathieu plateau.
The area of the 4.49 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the Vulvoz basin, which is bordered in the north, east and south by steep slopes, partly criss-crossed by rock bands. The border is on the upper edge, which leads to a high plateau. Near the Belvédère de Sur Cuchet the highest point of Vulvoz is reached at 1000 m . The valley basin is drained by the Dorfbach from Vulvoz to the west to Longviry (tributary of the Bienne ), cut deep into the Jura mountains . The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
Neighboring municipalities of Vulvoz are Larrivoire in the north, Les Bouchoux in the east, Choux in the south and Rogna in the west.
history
Vulvoz was first mentioned in a document in the 13th century. At that time it was owned by the Saint-Claude Abbey. At the end of the Middle Ages, the village formed its own small lordship. Together with Franche-Comté , Vulvoz came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 20 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Vulvoz is one of the smallest communities in the Jura department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (101 people were still counted in 1901), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vulvoz was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture , in particular cattle and dairy farming, as well as forestry. The water power of the Dorfbach was used early on to operate a mill. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. There are no other jobs in the community outside of the primary sector.
The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Molinges in the Bienne valley to Choux. Another road connection is with Larrivoire.
