Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude is a commune with 2,437 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Jura department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Claude and the canton of Saint-Lupicin .
It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2019 by amalgamating the Commune nouvelle Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude with the municipality of Pratz . The municipality of Ponthoux was integrated with effect from January 1, 2016 . All three original municipalities ( Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude , Ponthoux and Pratz) have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude.

Lavans-lès-Saint-Claude is about seven kilometers (as the crow flies) west of the city of Saint-Claude and is part of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park . Neighboring municipalities are: Coteaux du Lizon in the north, Avignon-lès-Saint-Claude in the north-east, Saint-Claude in the east and south-east, Chassal-Molinges in the south, Vaux-lès-Saint-Claude in the south-west, Jeurre in the west and Villards-d 'Héria in the northwest.
