Maisod is a commune in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Maisod is located at 520 m , about 17 km northwest of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a high plateau between the valley cut of the Lac de Vouglans in the west and the wooded chains of the High Jura in the east.
The area of the 7.39 km² large municipality (with lake portion 10.22 km²) covers a section of the French Jura. The western border runs roughly in the middle of the Lac de Vouglans reservoir. It was dammed in 1969, flooded the deeply cut valley of the Ain and is now a popular recreational area. On its east side, the lake is flanked by an almost 100 m high steep slope, which leads to the adjacent plateau (an average of 520 m ). At 553 m , the highest point of Maisod is reached on the eastern border of the municipality. The municipality is part of the Upper Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
The village of Le Mont-Cerf ( 525 m ) on the edge of the plateau above Lac de Vouglans and a few individual farms belong to Maisod . The neighboring communities of Maisod are Coyron in the north, Meussia and Charchilla in the east, Moirans-en-Montagne and Onoz in the south and Orgelet in the west.
history
The municipality of Maisod was already settled in prehistoric times and during Roman times. The church of Maisod was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The village with its church and two castles was in 1477 by troops of King Louis XI. destroyed. Together with Franche-Comté , Maisod came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The area changed in 1822 when the previously independent Brillat was incorporated into Maison.

Economy and Infrastructure
Maisod was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
Thanks to the Lac de Vouglans, Maisod now also benefits from tourism. It is the location of a holiday complex and a campsite. The La Mercantine leisure center is located on the lakeshore, with a sailing center and numerous other opportunities for water sports.
The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road D470, which leads from Lons-le-Saunier to Saint-Claude.
