German table tennis championship 1959
The 27th national German table tennis championship took place on January 24th and 25th, 1959 in Donaueschingen .
Conny Freundorfer became German champion in men's singles for the seventh time in a row and thus extended his title record. From an illness before the tournament he showed himself recovered well, gave in only one set in all individual fights and defeated Heinz Harst in the final . In the women's singles, Hannelore Schlaf won her third title after 1955 and 1956 . In the final, she prevailed against last year's winner Uschi Matthias , who at that time still competed under her maiden name Uschi Fiedler . In the men's doubles, the twin brothers Ernst and Herbert Gomolla defeated the pairing Conny Freundorfer / Josef Seiz 3-2. German champions in women's doubles were Jutta Kruse / Inge Müser , while Wolf Berger / Hannelore Schlaf dominated in mixed .
Erich Arndt was missing. The Hessian Table Tennis Association did not nominate him for this German championship because Arndt stayed away from Hessian ranking tournaments without excuse. Eva Graf did not take part because of an illness.
All games were played in the best-of-five mode (three sets of wins).
