Dornes is a French commune with 1,430 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Nevers and the canton of Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier .
Geographical location
The municipality is located in the area between the Loire in the northeast and its left tributary Allier in the southwest, around 30 kilometers southeast of Nevers , on the border with the neighboring Allier department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . Neighboring communities are:
- Saint-Parize-en-Viry in the northeast,
- Toury-Lurcy in the east,
- Saint-Ennemond in the southeast,
- Aurouër in the southwest,
- Toury-sur-Jour to the west and
- Neuville-lès-Decize in the northwest.
The village is crossed by the river Dornette, which drains in a northerly direction via Abron and Acolin to the Loire.
