Dörnitz is a village and a district of Möckern in the district of Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Dörnitz is located about nine kilometers southwest of Ziesar and 35 km east of Magdeburg on the edge of the Altengrabow military training area . The Gloine flows through the village . The Altengrabow district belonged to Dörnitz .

The annual precipitation is 566 mm and is therefore comparatively low as it falls in the lower quarter of the values ​​recorded in Germany. Lower values ​​are registered at 14% of the measuring stations of the German Weather Service . The driest month is February, with the most rainfall in June. In June there is 1.8 times more rainfall than in February. The precipitation hardly varies and is very evenly distributed over the year. Lower seasonal fluctuations are registered at only seven percent of the measuring stations in Germany.

history

In 1447 the place was mentioned for the first time in a deed of a Dietrich Kross . Another enfeoffment of this lord can be found in 1461 and 1467, the latter, however, in the name of Jan Kross . The Slavic place name Dernitz is mentioned in all three documents .

In 1847 "Dörniz" was listed in the "Topographical-Statistical Handbook of the Prussian State". The church village included a manor, a paper mill, a grinding mill, 21 houses and 130 souls.

The military training area was set up from 1893 and expanded over decades. During the First and Second World War , the facilities were used at times as a prisoner of war camp ( Stalag XI A ), HJ training camp , Army Construction Office, Army Forestry Office, ammunition factory with forced labor camp for Ukrainian and Polish women and girls. After the Second World War was here until 1994, a location of the Soviet army ( GSSD ) and then the Bundeswehr .

On January 1, 2009, the previously independent municipality of Dörnitz was incorporated into Möckern.

The coat of arms was designed in 2004 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and approved by the district on January 25, 2008.
