The ice hockey regional league 1987/88 was played in the form of five groups - South , South-West , Middle , West and North .

mode

In the south group with 12 teams, the south-west group with 8 teams, the middle group with 7 teams and the north group with 7 teams, only one preliminary round was played as a single round, while in the west group with 7 teams the preliminary round as a double round was played out. After the preliminary rounds, the first six of the group south and the first two of the group south-west participated in the qualification for the upper league 1987/88 in the qualification for the upper league south and the qualification for the upper league north the first two of the group middle, the group west and the group north; the other teams took part in the qualification for their respective groups.

Regionalliga Süd (single round)

• The teams in places 1 to 6 after the preliminary round qualify for the qualification for the Oberliga Süd ;
• the other teams take part in the qualifying round.
