Hoeksche Waard is a municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland . It was created on January 1, 2019 from the merger of the municipalities of Binnenmaas , Cromstrijen , Korendijk , Oud-Beijerland and Strijen .

geography

The municipality is located on the island of the same name in the southwest of the Netherlands. To the south of it lies the province of North Brabant . The community is separated in all directions by natural community boundaries, each with a river. It borders the Oude Maas in the north, the Dordtsche Kil in the east, the Hollands Diep in the south and the Spui in the west .

In the first local election in the history of the municipality, the national parties CDA , ChristenUnie , D66 , GroenLinks , PvdA , SGP and VVD as well as the local voter groups Cromstrijen '98 were Hoeksche Waard, Hart Voor Alle Kernen, Hoeksche Waardse Senioren Partij, Lokalen Hoeksche Waard, Onafhankelijk and Progressief Hoeksche Waard. The Christian Democrats were able to prevail as election winners with a lead of 1095 votes.

College van B&W

In order to achieve a government-forming majority in the legislative period from 2019 to 2022, the electoral groups CDA, ChristenUnie, Lokalen Hoeksche Waard and SGP have united in a coalition. While the CDA provides the College van burgemeester en wethouders with two councilors, the other coalition parties are each represented by an alderman in the college, which was appointed on January 2, 2019. Seat of the municipality

The community center, which covers all services, is to be built in the town hall of Oud-Beijerland. The municipal council should also meet there. The municipal administration, on the other hand, should find its place in Maasdam, the former seat of the municipality of Binnenmaas.
