Jamal Lewis Lafitte (* 26. August 1979 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is a former American American football poker players in the position of running backs . He played for the Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). He won Super Bowl XXXV with the Ravens and in the 2003 season was the fifth player in NFL history to score more than 2,000 yards in the running game .

NFL

Baltimore Ravens

In 2000 he was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as the fifth player in the first round of the NFL Draft . In his first season he pushed the smaller halfback Priest Holmes as the most successful running back the team with 1,364 erlaufenen yards . Holmes became the NFL's most successful running back after joining the Kansas City Chiefs the following season. Lewis contributed to Super Bowl victory over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV in 2001 with a touchdown .

Besides him, only Eric Dickerson , Terrell Davis , Barry Sanders , OJ Simpson , Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson managed to run more than 2,000 yards in one season. Lewis did this in the 2003 season with 2,066 yards.

He played for the Cleveland Browns from 2007 to 2009 before retiring after the 2009 season.

Life

Legal proceedings

On January 26, 2005, Lewis was sentenced to four months in prison and 500 community hours for attempting to acquire cocaine prior to the 2004 season . In addition, he had to accept a suspension for two games in the season by the Ravens.
