Kainz Medal

The Josef Kainz Medal was donated by the City of Vienna in 1958 to mark the 100th birthday of the Austrian actor Josef Kainz . The award was given annually to actors , directors and stage designers / outfitters until 1999 . Together with the Nestroy Ring and the Raimund Ring , it was included in the newly created, annually awarded Nestroy Theater Prize (several categories) from 2000 .

Regulations

On March 28, 1959, the Vienna City Council decided to donate the Kainz Medal:

The Vienna City Council today approved the foundation of the "Josef Kainz Medal of the City of Vienna" on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the famous Viennese actor. Every year on September 20th, the anniversary of Kainz's death, the medal is awarded to an actor and an actress for the best acting and a director for the best directorial work of the year on a Viennese stage. The Kainz Medal is awarded by the mayor. Foreign artists can also receive it, but it can only be awarded once.
